Girls Aloud

Category: Chicks, MusicJoz @ 1:00 am

Let me tell you what I can’t believe.  Two main things:

  1. I can’t believe that there can be a female pop group that is manufactured on TV, and actually has music of exceptional quality.  It sort of defies what you would expect.  “Sort of” being an understatement.  This girl group, Girls Aloud, was created on a British TV show using the standard narrow-the-contestents-down formula.  After the show it was expected that they would make an album and then disappear or break up shortly after, as has been the case for most of these types of ventures.  THREE YEARS LATER, and 3 albums later, you’ve got serious respectable magazines/newspapers/music afficianados/etc highly regarding their music, and it’s now been two more years since that.  I’m done with the stereotype/automatic dismissal/disrespect to “manufactured” artists.  And even if they don’t write their own stuff, what do you want me to do, I can’t deny the eargasms.  And it’s nice to have some adult-oriented pop, with the occasional swearing, for once!!
  2. Far more unbelievable is that while most of the rest of the world gets to enjoy the music of Girls Aloud, there is a total blackout of them in the United States.  Never in my life have I felt so musically sorry for an entire country.  This Girls Aloud shit is really really good, so much so, that I’m willing to say that their third album, Chemistry, is very possibly the best pop album, ever.  I just can’t believe that America gets denied such awesomeness.  I blame their management.  I still can’t believe that people in the biz in the U.S. don’t just start putting it out there, but perhaps they fear upsetting the pop-punk environment or something.

Go check them out if you haven’t yet, read their wikipedia page for more info if you want, get Chemistry and enjoy life.  Here’s YouTubes of some of my favorites:

  • Swinging London Town - Fan mockup video of one of my favorites, off Chemistry.
  • Magic - Fan mockup video of one of my other favorites, off Chemistry.
  • Call the Shots - Great song off of Tangled Up.
  • Whole Lotta History - Beautiful ballad, live.
  • Teenage Dirtbag - Cover of a song I like in the first place, live.
  • This list could go on for 20 more entries, but I’ll stop!

Oh yeah, Kimberly by the way, Kimberly, mmmmmmm
