Obama Vending Machine Criticism

Category: Politics, SocietyJoz @ 10:14 pm

Today President Obama decided to go down to the White House press room and say hello to everybody.  Apparently Presidents almost never go there.  Anyway, from the Reuters story, I love this guy…

Then he took a tour of the facilities, pronouncing them a bit cramped and commenting on the lack of healthy snacks in the vending machines.

At Last

Category: Chicks, Music, PoliticsJoz @ 1:06 am

I find most of Beyoncé’s music to be obnoxious, primarily in beat and the tone in which she sings and enunciates her lyrics. On top of that, I don’t like her lyrics often times, such as in her most recent single in which the chorus goes “If you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it (repeat x20)”.  What is she talking about, what is “it”?  I should put a ring on anything I like?  I should get a big ring to put around my MacBook?  She’s not talking about women right?  If so, why would she demean them to an “it”?  Actually, I just found an interesting blog post about Beyoncé and socially conservative ideology.  Anyway, I digress.

Last night at the Neighborhood Ball, Beyoncé sang in honor of the first couple’s first dance.  It was not the Beyoncé that I am often annoyed by.  It was what could have been a different woman in the same body.  I would love if she had songs like this on the radio.  Two other things I realized:

#1: Wow she is a really amazing singer!

#2: Damn she is beautiful!

I really like this first dance not just because of the music and the love that is apparent between Barack and Michelle, but the title and headline lyric of the song, “at last”, can mean more than one thing here, and the whole thing just exudes a big sigh of comfort from me.

Begin Obama Era!

Category: Politics, SocietyJoz @ 11:55 pm

O glorious day!  I loved the inauguration, the whole day’s events.  President Obama!  I love it.  That guy’s our president!!  What a historic, wonderful day.  What a great time to be alive.  I’m so happy and proud, and feeling so high, ambitious, and excited about my country and the future.  Let’s do it!  Here we go!!!

Don’t boo Bush?

Category: PoliticsJoz @ 11:54 pm

Chris Matthews was upset at this morning’s pre-inaugural events when then-President (I love that I can say that!!) George W. Bush was introduced, because the crowd boo’d him:

(Alternate home video of the booing from the ground)

I especially enjoyed the “hey-hey-good-bye” singing for Bush, which happened on at least two occasions.

This is a man who is responsible for thousands of deaths, torture, unnecessary war, robbing us of our civil liberties, ruining our nation’s name and image, and driving the country into the ground, to name a few - and then you’re surprised and offended that when he shows up at a public event, people boo him!?  What are we supposed to do Chris, cheer for him?

It was one of the most ridiculous instances of somebody being surprised I’ve ever heard.  Any clapping, not booing, for this man should be the thing ridiculed.  As you’d say, Chris, “you get what you deserve, buddy”.

Open the damn crown AND the damn torch… damn!

Category: Politics, SocietyJoz @ 9:00 pm

One of our greatest landmarks is the Statue of Liberty.  As a youngster, I was already upset when I found out that you could no longer go up to the torch, because I really wanted to, and saw some fake 80s movie where they did go up there, though you’ve not actually been able to go up to the torch since 1916 :-( So, I was pretty disappointed about that, but at least I got to go up to the crown.

I didn’t find out until only a couple years ago that you can NO LONGER EVEN GO UP TO THE CROWN.  It’s been closed ever since, ready for this one?: 9/11.  That’s right, you cannot go inside of the Statue of Liberty at all anymore.  You can go inside the base, and look up into it, but you don’t get to go up it anymore.  The level of aggrivation this causes me is fairly high.  It’s like going from being in jail, to being in jail and not having enough room to sit down.  Ok, that’s a pretty ridiculous analogy, but you catch my drift.  It’s aggrivating especially because this is the Statue of Liberty, Liberty!.. and we let the actions of some terrorists on 9/11 take away our liberty with lady liberty.  It doesn’t get much more wrong than that.

On top of all that, the level of security is very high just to get into the base now, which is fine and great, but then let us go up the statue like we used to do!  There’s an awesome congressman from New York named Anthony Weiner who is trying to get the statue re-opened.  He has a great video of him talking about the situation and getting to go up to closed crown:

There’s also this video which shows more of the spectacular view from the crown.

R.I.P. Circuit City

Category: Places, Society, TechnologyJoz @ 1:35 pm

It’s official: Circuit City is going out of business, closing all their stores.

* Joz does his best old-man teary-eyed with snot running and says: “Dog-gone, they done went and took it away from me.”

This was one of my favored stores.  I thought it was a good experience when in there, and they had some of the best customer service.  I guess I didn’t go there enough though :-(

I’ll miss the big red plug, where service is state of the art oohhhhh *sobs*
