Green Day vs. Wal-Mart

Category: Music, SocietyJoz @ 10:59 pm

Ah, the conservatism/censorship (same thing) of Wal-Mart.  Good for Green Day.  There’s a couple really good quotes from the guys in that article, such as:

They want artists to censor their records in order to be carried in there.  We just said no.  We’ve never done it before. You feel like you’re in 1953 or something.

Meanwhile, violent gory R-rated horror movies (or even unrated versions) like the Saw series, and other movies ridden with cursing are sold there, along with firearms.

By the way, in case you’ve never seen WAL-MART: The High Cost of Low Price, .plan highly recommends that you do.  They got it on Netflix streaming.  My girlfriend introduced me to it, yet for some odd reason her extremely liberal ass doesn’t want to ever finish watching the last 15 minutes of it.

iPod Full!

Category: TechnologyJoz @ 10:26 pm

Uh… ohhhhhhh

ipod capacity

Now granted I do have a number of garbage albums on there that I was checking out and don’t intend to keep (I don’t mean the band, though I do have those tambien), but still, it’s not like there’s gonna be that many extra gigs of free space once they’re cleared out, maybe two or three gigs?  32gb iPhone idea is starting to seem like it’ll be v.cramped :/

Prop 8 Upheld

Category: PoliticsJoz @ 11:24 pm

I’m very disappointed in the California Supreme Court for upholding discrimination in the constitution.  It’s quite ridiculous.  I’d like to once again criticize the ballot initiative system.  It is both stupid and annoying.  What’s the point of electing our officials?  I spend (waste?) time reading up on and voting on 20+ measures EVERY YEAR.  Is that what you guys do in all the other states?  You guys go to the polls four or five times a year to vote on 20-30 items every year?  What do you mean, you guys aren’t part-time unpaid politicians?  Where’s my salary??  And of course I HAVE to do it so the conservatives won’t sneak some bullshit in through the backdoor.  WTF am I voting for these state senators for?  And it’s also ridiculous when entities from an outside state can basically come in and decide California politics, as in the case of prop 8.

Just get rid of the stupid initiative system.  This state is fuct in two major ways, this, and the supermajority requirement to pass legislation, or at least budgets.  For an example of the best of both in one nice big-bowed present, check this out: They can’t even pass budgets because of the supermajority requirement, and then they ask us to decide how to do it!  No joke!

One thing I can agree with this Reagan fan on: Why the California Initiative System is Undermining Democracy

Wooden Stir Sticks Review

Category: Art, Comedy, FoodJoz @ 11:06 pm

Not too long ago I was looking into wooden stir sticks so we could switch to them at work, away from the plastic ones - you know… think plastic chemical leakage being placed in near boiling water - just don’t feel good about it, and I can’t be in love if it’s plastic.  Anyway, I was laughing pretty hard when I was reading the sole review that someone posted on Amazon.  Yes, this really is about drink stir sticks, though it turns out that this person is a review artist, gotta love him:

Morning Has Broken, But It Can Be Stirred Into GladnessOctober 28, 2008
By   (Where the Wind Blows) - See all my reviews

Stirring cream into coffee, watching the smoky cloud brighten the dusky drink, is the beginning of good days. Spoons work well-enough, but their inadequacy lay in their efficiency. Wide and concave, a spoon swirls creamed coffee swiftly, and the morning starts too fast. Pace those first moments with Wooden Coffee Stirrers, and every moment after will be more welcome than the last.

With the Wooden Coffee Stirrers, the lingering night escapes more slowly, more gently. Mornings are better begun not bounding, but with a kind crawl. The thin, flat surface slips the cream into the coffee, blending like candlelight in a dim room in May.

The wooden stirrer is closer to nature than the chemical of plastic, or the harshness of steel. Friendly to the fingertips, the action of the stirrer is comfortable, an ally for meeting your hopes for good coffee and a nice day.

Increase the welcome of each morning by using the Wooden Coffee Stirrers. 1,000 should last a year. Make sure it is a good year.

This review became rather respectable in retrospect, but was very comedic when first encountered.

Obama’s Answers

Category: PoliticsJoz @ 11:26 pm

I’m alleviating a bit of backblog here.

It’s such a pleasure to watch Obama’s press conferences, in which he gives such intelligent and thoughtful answers to the press’ questions.  I particularly found insightful his answer to this torture question, especially about a minute into his answer when he talks about England:

Also it was funny at 35:10 when the reporter asked him to give an array of feelings, and great to see Obama not just play it off but fully and thoughtfully answer each point of the question.

You can see the happiness, pride, and honor in the faces of the press.
