    .

  1. Precious: Based on the Novel “Push” by Sapphire
  2. Inglourious Basterds
  3. Up
  4. The Blind Side
  5. An Education
  6. District 9
  7. Up in the Air
  8. The Hurt Locker
  9. Avatar
  10. A Serious Man

I feel like there are definitely some movies up there that are not worthy of this nomination, who’s spots are more deserved by others, such as Star Trek, or (500) Days of Summer.

Dave Gorman is Great

Category: Fun, Movies, SocietyJoz @ 7:00 pm

I’ve recently been exposed to this British man named Dave Gorman.  Dave Gorman is a very awesome man.  This guy is a great example of living life, and I feel like he really gets it.  Of his works, I first watched America Unchained, a great documentary about his attempt to accomplish a transcontinental road trip of the United States without giving any money to “the man”.  Then I saw Dave Gorman’s Googlewhack Adventure, which has a funny name, but I had no idea it would elicit so much emotion from me.  It had me laughing, worrying, gasping ,standing and cheering, and is probably one of the greatest stories ever told.  Dave Gorman (the one in these movies), you are the man… but not *that* man!  I feel like we were already like-minded, but you definitely inspire me.  Thank you.

Since you can’t even buy these videos in the U.S., here’s links to torrents for them.  I recommend not reading more of the descriptions and instead just watching:

America Unchained

Dave Gorman’s Googlewhack Adventure - When you start watching it, give it about 20 minutes or so, it’ll pick up quite nicely.

Thanks Michael Holden.

Best Picture: Ranked

Category: MoviesJoz @ 1:00 pm

This is the first year I’ve ever seen all the nominated movies, so:

  1. Slumdog Millionaire
  2. The Reader
  3. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
  4. Milk
  5. Frost/Nixon

Number 3&4 could be flipped.  Those two are very close, but I put Benjamin Button ahead simply because I had a deeper emotional feeling from it, but I go back and forth on these two.  Frost/Nixon didn’t seem like it was up to this Best Picture level, and so I’m not sure what it’s doing here - and this is from someone who is into politics.  I’d have nominated Revolutionary Road or The Dark Knight in place of that.  The Reader was the final movie I just saw recently and I was very impressed.  I feel like it’s a really important/powerful/deep movie.  I might even have a blog post regarding it.  I still think Slumdog Millionaire is the best movie out of these, but The Reader is not *too* far behind, and I wouldn’t be terribly upset if it somehow won either.  Would I?  Would I??  Just give it to Slumdog Millionaire, that’s the best one.

Great Movies

Category: MoviesJoz @ 1:03 am

I’ve seen more movies in this last year than I ever have, at least as far as new releases are concerned.  I gotta say that Revolutionary Road was such a great movie.  After seeing it a couple weeks ago, I thought that was the best movie I’d seen out of all those in the past year, and even in a long time.

Then a couple days later I finally got to see Slumdog Millionaire, which I’d been wanting to see since its release.  I gotta say, that movie takes it even higher, to another level.  It’s the movie equivelent of watching pro skateboarders, and then watching Rodney Mullen.  I think Slumdog Millionaire might be one of the best movies ever.  It’s on my gold movie list.  If it doesn’t win the Oscar, the Kodak should burn.
